Q is for Quicken

In the earliest days of spring,
winter presents itself,
the last of the ice or snow,
tree limbs as sticks into the sky.
My hands and feet are cold,
yet, something quickens,
the first crocus,
the smallest redbud,
the day the robins return,
that stretch of light a little longer
each evening,
and I can put aside those dark thoughts
that come in the months before spring,
before you told me
you carry a child.

Busy week, yet still time for editing and writing. Sundays for the A to Z Challenge, thankfully, is a day without blogging, a day of rest. Read what others have written for the A to Z Blogging Challenge HERE.

  1. I like this! Spring is my favorite season, partially for the above reasons. I love the fresh breezes, the gradual greening of trees and grass, the arrival of birds from their winter vacations down south, the warmer temperatures and longer days. It all breathes, "LIFE. Life is being renewed, each day more and more."

Stopping by from the A to Z :)

  2. Thank you for visiting, Jaimie. We are still new to living where the winters are very cold, so spring is precious.

This strikes home, Beth. December and January is when I most think about people I know with cancer, the death of my parents, you know, stuff like that. But tonight for the first time I heard the swamp frogs sing, and they chased away the dark clouds! We live in Northern MN and we had a really rough and cold winter, so I can relate to your winter as well.

    1. Thank you for your heartfelt comment, Anonymous. May the spring be brighter for you. We have frogs singing all through the day as our apartment is near a wetlands. What a joyful sound.
